On Friday, June 16th, Supervisor Ron Kiesler of District 13 (City of New Richmond) tendered his resignation from the St. Croix County Board, effective immediately. Mr. Kiesler is moving out of the district which he has represented on the County Board since being elected in 2012.
Supervisor Kiesler served on the Council on Aging and Disabilities, and the Administration Committee. His departure will leave two districts, District 7 ( City of Hudson Wards 2,3,4,7) and District 13 (City of New Richmond Wards 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12) unrepresented until replacements are identified, appointed by the Board Chair, and approved by a majority vote of the remaining Board members. The District 7 vacancy originated when Supervisor Laurie Bergen resigned in May 2017, also due to moving out of the district.
Supervisors Bergen and Kiesler both sat on the five member Administration Committee. Their absence leaves three remaining members: Supervisors Roy Sjoberg, Jill Berke, and Shaela Leibfried.
The County Board does not meet in July, so the next opportunity to address these vacancies will occur at the August regular meeting of the County Board. As of the time of this writing, the public posting of the District 13 vacancy was not yet available on the County web site, but presumably will be in the near future. Appointments made by the Board to fill the vacant positions will be effective until the Spring 2018 election, when all 19 Board seats are up for re-election.
The current posting on the County web site for District 7 indicates: “Any person who is a qualified elector and resident of County Supervisor District 7 (or now District 13) interested in serving as its supervisor is invited to contact County Board Chair Roger Larson at 715.220.1590 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org; or County Clerk Cindy Campbell at 715-386-4610 or email@example.com of their interest and qualifications. Persons interested may also contact Chair Larson in writing at 1101 Carmichael Road, Hudson, WI 54016. Persons are asked to express their interest by July 14, 2017.”
It is unclear at this time whether the same time frame will apply to the District 13 vacancy.
